Tracking smoothly on an iOptron star tracker set to lunar rate, with precise manual focus, allowed the camera to gather enough light at f/5.6 and ISO 800 to reveal detailed contrast within the umbral shadow without blowing out the illuminated crescent. Shot with a Nikon Z6 II full-frame mirrorless body and a Nikkor 80-200mm zoom lens pushed out to 200mm, the frame strikes a crisp balance between the Moon’s subtle surface details and the warm atmospheric glow, framed by light high clouds softly catching the brightest region of the eclipse.
