M78

Inspired by a friends recently published image of M78, I decided to re-do some old data from 2018 and apply some newly learned processing techniques, below is the result. I don’t have a lot of time on this one maybe 4 hours total, but I like the way it came out regardless.

I think I will try it again this season and put some real time on it, with a wider faster scope, stay tuned.

In the meantime, click to enlarge this one and look around at this most beautiful region of sky.

M78 is the brightest diffuse reflection nebula of a group of nebulae that includes NGC 2064, NGC 2067 and NGC 2071. This group belongs to the Orion B molecular cloud complex and is about 1,350 light-years distant from Earth.
